In 2013, we are offering the opportunity for an artist to work extensively with our gallery with an artistic mission that will be carried in conjunction with our 2013 Multimedia SMart Festival.
The SMart Festival’s three touchstones – collaboration, diversity and accessibility – continue to set Grand Rapids’ Multimedia Art Festival apart on the world stage. Founded to explore and celebrate the creative spirit, SMart Festivial is an annual multi-genre series of events that feature highly-acclaimed, innovative new artwork.
Free, widely accessible openings, performances and “accidental encounters with art” are important hallmark of SMart Festival. At every turn, festival goers are invited to participate while enjoying everything Smart Multimedia Art Festival has to offer.
With our reputation for curatorial innovation and depth of programming in diverse media Open Concept Gallery is an invaluable resource to the community.
The residency is intended to allow a fluid exchange of ideas between the artist and Open Concept Gallery, as well as between the artist and the surrounding environment. West Michigan offers a unique landscape for the development of fresh thought and works, and the artist will have the distinction of being a featured public art project in the 2013 SMart Festival.
