The Open Concept Gallery is be participating in the first Grand Rapids ArtPrize competition with a show titled “Dream and Reality.” The group exhibition contains a wide variety of artists with diverse motivations, backgrounds, and educations. The ArtPrize competition is a way for the Grand Rapids community to improve and expand their interpretations of art. The most important aspect to this contest is it allows the public to see numerous functions of art with a mixture of conceptual and technical abilities present in each participant. The Open Concept Gallery’s exhibition aim is to host and explain how artwork is created with different goals in mind, at all sorts of skill and education levels. The main goal of the Open Concept Gallery’s exhibition is to have the public understand the importance of art in our everyday lives in comparison to art created with conceptual elements. The ArtPrize competition is a drastic approach to art in comparison to the professional world. This experiment (promoting art as mass entertainment) is not necessarily a bad way to look at art; however the Open Concept Gallery wants to help the public to gain as much knowledge about art forms as possible.
