Marielis Seyler is an Austrian photographer who has shown her work extensively in Europe, and more recently in Brooklyn, New York at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center. For SMart Multimedia Festival 2011, Seyler exhibited Trample Pictures, a site-specific interactive installation featuring large digital photographs that covered the floor and entrance to the gallery’s freight elevator. Visitors were expected to step all over and damage the photos, which portrayed fragile objects like snail shells and moths, as well as, a nude woman’s body and a crawling infant child. The installation asked participants to consider how they may violate or mistreat our natural environment and vulnerable bodies, especially in a technological age.
